I was walking down my street today on my way to the Claims Kia (a name which everyone I know now uses for my car) when I passed by a new 2019 Forte in red.

“The new Forte is pretty nice” I said to myself as I walked past.

I stopped dead in my tracks. “Did that have a 6 speed manual?” I thought to myself. I backtracked and looked. Yes, yes it did.

“Huh, pretty nice. Wait....” I pressed my face to the glass using my hands to cast shadows in the interior of the car to see better in the bright sunshine.

“THE NEW LX MANUALS HAVE STANDARD AC?” I screamed on the sidewalk like a homeless person having a mental health crisis.

I rushed home to my computer and pulled up the features for the new forte. Not only do you get AC, you get heated seats/steering wheel and android auto/car play STANDARD with a 6 speed in a pretty attractive sedan for CHEAP.

How cheap you may ask? Well, remember I bought mine for $11K CAD with an MSRP of $17K CAD (roughly).

They are already starting to discount these things!

As much as I joke about the Kia, its low cost allowed me to keep the vehicles I love and have a new reliable car for work. It does its job and if it had AC and android auto, would fit my needs perfectly.

I am pretty tempted to trade up at some point. Also, I am genuinely curious, no joke, why more oppos don’t buy these? Cheap, manual, well equipped with a good warranty.

We’ll see. gotta figure out this CX-3 claim first. Then I gotta work on my wife for approval.

I know I said that no AC wasn’t a big deal, but a few times this summer I’ve felt like I was going insane while in traffic.

Saw a new Forte sedan the other day as well and I really liked it. The rear light design is pretty neat as well. DO EET!

Nice! I would always go for the base. At the end of the day, this is a work vehicle. I sit in it and drive around all day.

I don’t need performance, just relative comfort and good mileage

I’ve always been leary of Kia, as I dont feel they have proven to be anything I would ever want, I rented a Kia Rio 5 a couple of years back (2015), and was horrified at the pure shittyness of it. It left a real sour taste in my mouth, and frankly seemed like more of a hazard than anything. Now, i know Kia has really stepped up their game in the last little bit, considering the Stinger, and I’m not adverse to the design language, but I can’t get past the abysmal drive characteristics, and the jury is still out (IMHO) on reliability. Compared to the rest of what you have driven, hoe has your Kia experience been overall?

Oh in that case yeah. The FE in the US is the base model with the manual. It has a shocking amount of tech in it for being a base model Forte. In the US it comes standard with:

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

Lane Keeping Assist-Line (LKA-L)

8-Inch touch screen with Android or Apple support.

You know, I quite like my Forte overall. AC and android auto would be a game changer. But, for the price? It is good.

I looked at Fiesta Sedan with a 5spd that I am 100% sure someone shot themselves in. Massive weird stain on the headliner.

the fact that I could have that...or my Kia... not a hard choice.

Well, 3 things there...

1. I don’t really have the money as almost everything I earn at the moment is going towards saving up for a house (I still live at home atm as mom has kindly let me stay here so I could save up really quickly for a house without needing a huge mortgage).

2. My Accent is still in great shape and I love my little Korean ecobox, so I’m not in need of a DD at the moment!

3. My ‘extra’ money continues to go towards my FIAT 126 import fund for when the time comes. :P

I dunno man. Those dreams still exist, but real talk? We hope to move/buy a home in the next few years. Perhaps have kids. I also really want to start on the truck. Those three things will take a YUGE amount of money

I want so many cars, but my wife and I have non-automotive goals.

I think that I should be happy with what I have in the truck and Fiesta ST.

That’s a lot of car for very little money. I’m a huge fan of having a basic econobox as a primary/commuter car. Personally I think it’s the best jalop realist option - gets you to work and back safely and efficiently, is cheap to own and maintain, and allows those of us without deep pockets to still have something cheap and fun on the side without missing work or going broke if/when repairs are needed.

You ask why more Oppos dont buy these? Well I for one dont believe in the concept of an “economic” or “comfortable” daily driver. I grasp the concept of having a “daily” that is less broken, more modern, and easier to deal with on a day to day basis than the weekend car(s). But that daily should never be boring or basic nor need a warranty in my mind. I wouldnt want to daily my Miata every single day but I am happy to daily the STi since I get to have niceities like A/C, seats that arent abusive, and better crash safety standards. Sure I paid a little bit more for my 13 year old Subaru than you did for a brand new car, but I have had zero issues and its provided endless fun and somehow no speeding tickets. I think I might have a different perspective if it was for work like in your situation. But I would probably be even more inclined to get something used and it would still have to have some more character like something with a v8 or a sweet wagon of some sort.
